Grant Guoqiang Zhang, Ph.D., CMD, L.Ac.

Background & Experience
|
Dr. Zhang has practiced Tai Chi Chuan for many years and has
been a Tai Chi instructor for the local community for the
past 6 years.
Dr. Zhang
is nationally certified in Chinese Herbology and Acupuncture
by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and
Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). He attended the highly
acclaimed Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese
Medicine from 1979 to 1984, majoring in acupuncture, Chinese
orthopedics and
Tui Na, and received a Bachelor of Medicine degree.
He furthered his training on
Chinese herbal medicine and received his Master degree in
1987. He also holds a certificate by the US Educational
Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). He has
been
a Maryland licensed acupuncturist since 1995.
Dr. Zhang
received his Ph. D. from West Virginia University in 1994,
majoring in molecular oncology. He has been active in
many TCM research projects; among them are the acupuncture
on osteoarthritic knee pain, infertility and Parkinson’s
disease. He has enjoyed
teaching TCM and has held various faculty/researcher positions
at many academic institutes including, Shanghai University
of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Maryland Institute of
Traditional Chinese Medicine, Johns Hopkins Medical School,
Southern California University of Health Science, and
currently, the University of Maryland School of Medicine
Center For Integrative Medicine. He is a grant review
consultant to the National Institute of Health (NIH) and a
contributing author to two books on TCM.
In addition, he has also authored many papers published
on peer-reviewed professional journals.

Treatment Philosophy

As an experienced
clinician, Dr. Zhang has helped many patients with a variety
of conditions. He continually looks for new and
improved ways to help patients move through their illness.
Consistent with the principles of TCM, he views each patient
as a unique individual whose physical and mental well-being
is equally important in determining the outcomes of their
treatment. Dr. Zhang is well known for his gentle
needling technique, efficient follow up, and compassionate
interaction with patients. He enters the patient
relationship as their partner while emphasizing preventive
approaches to maintaining optimal health. He has been
particularly interested in issues with women’s health, and
integrative cancer care. |
