Treatment Philosophy

During my 25 years of medical practice, I have worked within the standard medical community while remaining sympathetic to the alternative/ complementary medicine movement. In the Functional Medicine approach I have found a science-based method that integrates standard and alternative/complementary therapies. We are at the verge of a transformation in health care. People now have greater freedom in choosing the type of health care services that fit their needs. A nutritional approach to health care can provide an excellent complement to standard medical services. In many cases this approach is far safer and more effective than the standard medical approach to health problems. A prudent application of complementary care techniques requires a respect for the standard medical therapies a person may be receiving, while integrating alternative therapies in a comprehensive health care program. I look forward to working with people who are highly motivated to participate in their own health enhancement. Ultimately, it is the effort of the individual that will produce success.

I have integrated Functional Medicine, Hormonal Therapy as taught by Thierry Hertogh, M.D., and Herbal Therapy in my Complementary-Alternative Practice.  In the functional medicine approach we have a science-based program of assessment and therapy. While functional medicine emphasizes the principles of molecular medicine and modern nutritional biochemistry, it acknowledges and integrates all fields of health care. The Hormonal Therapy approach attempts to recognize hormonal dysfunction through patient history, physical exam and laboratory testing. The approach is different from conventional medicine in that it recognizes the patients’ experience of health as primary to diagnosis and therapy. The Herbal Therapy approach is an eclectic mix of Western Herbal Therapy and Chinese Herbal Therapy.  I can truly say that the practice of medicine is more stimulating than ever.  I look forward to working with people who are interested in achieving Health as a Positive Vitality.
