COUNSELING
Background & Experience
Mary began her Social Work career as the staff social worker for Boy’s
and Girl’s Homes of Maryland. She worked with adolescents and their
families in two group homes. She then worked at a private mental health
center, working with people of all ages with a variety of mental health
issues. She started her private practice in Laurel in 1992 before
joining the RiverHill Wellness Center in November of 2000.
Treatment Philosophy
I believe that people are emotional, physical ands spiritual
beings, and that all three aspects are influenced by each other and many
other factors. Every individual comes from a family and has an ongoing
life at present which can effect mood and self esteem. My role as a
psychotherapist is to help patients process past and present
difficulties, and identify strengths that lead toward healing. While I am Psycho-dynamically
trained, I am eclectic in practice, embracing an integrative and
holistic approach.
Education
Mary graduated from the University of Maryland at College Park, Md in
1986, with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She obtained her Masters of
Social Work from The Catholic University of America in 1989. Upon
graduation she completed the required hours of supervision and direct
Clinical practice and received her Licensed Certified Social
Worker-Clinical license in 1992.
