Ginger...Ever wonder what type of chemicals are in these spices and how they may affect the body? As an example let’s look to see what type of pharmacologically active chemicals may be present. Fresh ginger, rich in volatile oils that give ginger it a distinct odor, is used as a stimulant of the peripheral circulation, acts as a useful diaphoretic, promoting perspiration in feverish conditions; promotes gastric secretions; effective as a gargle for sore throats; and used externally for muscle sprains.
